Great little dehydrator, October 15, 2010 By Flying Platters (Idaho) - See all my reviews This review is from: Nesco FD-60 500-Watt Snackmaster Food Dehydrator/Jerky Maker Great little dehydrator. Four large apples sliced fill up the four trays. The noise is a little louder than expected. Sounds like an exhaust fan. I fill my dehydrator in the kitchen and then move it to the laundry room due to white noise sound. Adjustable temperature great feature but would have liked a timer that would turn off in my absence. I've used this dehydrator to dry tomatoes, apples, kale chips, flaxseed crackers, peppers, and sweet potatoes. The drying times seem quick enough if using the suggested temperature per manufacturer. Takes a long time if using temperatures at 115 degrees or lower for raw food recipes.

Very Efficient Dehydrator, November 4, 2011 By This review is from: Nesco FD-60 500-Watt Snackmaster Food Dehydrator/Jerky Maker I bought this dehydrator several years ago when I discovered how much my dog loves sweet potato "rawhides". The bags sold in pet stores are really expensive so I decided to make them myself. They turn out great every time and this way I know they don't have any preservatives or food coloring added to them. Of course I now use it for many other things like drying other fruits and veggies as well as herbs from my garden. This model has an adjustable thermostat for dehydrating different types of foods and I like that it has the fan/heat element on the top lid rather than the bottom so you don't get messy drips in hard to clean places. The noise level is tolerable, similar to the exhaust fan over the stove. It comes with a plastic tray for making fruit roll-ups but I use it on the very bottom tray to catch drips from fruits that tend to have a lot of juice to them. This makes clean up a lot easier.
